“Russia Launches Air Attacks on Kyiv, Sparking Fires and Casualties”

Date:

Russia launched air attacks on Kyiv with drones and missiles early on Tuesday, causing two casualties and widespread fires in the Ukrainian capital. Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that 10 individuals were injured, with falling debris sparking fires in two residential buildings. The assault resulted in damage to numerous high-rise structures, a dormitory, a school, a clinic, warehouses, and other locations.

Following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, U.S. peace envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff departed Kyiv, prompting Russia to resume its attacks. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha condemned the renewed violence, emphasizing the need for international pressure on Moscow and an increase in ballistic missile interceptors due to Kyiv’s dwindling supply.

Residents in Kyiv, like 61-year-old Iryna Barisenkova, described hearing explosions and witnessing a significant fire near the Darnytskyi Vehicle Repair Plant. The Russian defense ministry stated that Moscow targeted military and logistical sites in Kyiv and its vicinity, as well as in Chornomorsk, a port on the Black Sea.

Neighboring Poland, a member of NATO and the European Union, initiated defensive measures against potential Russian missile strikes on Ukraine amid the unrest in Kyiv. The Polish army confirmed the temporary suspension of flights at Lublin airport due to ongoing military operations.

In retaliation, Ukrainian drones inflicted damage and injuries in Saratov, a city along the Volga river in Russia, known for its oil refinery and military installations. Additionally, Moscow reported casualties from a Ukrainian attack on the Crimean peninsula, which Russia annexed in 2014.

The escalating conflict has prompted international concern and calls for diplomatic resolutions to prevent further bloodshed and destruction.
