“R&B Star Stormzy Stars in iPhone-Filmed Short ‘Big Man'”

Date:

A new short film, “Big Man,” featuring R&B icon Stormzy, has made its debut on YouTube, shot entirely using an iPhone, giving it a cinematic feel. Directed by Aneil Karia, an Academy Award-winner, the film showcases the story of Tenzman, a seasoned musician, and the unexpected encounter with two lively children.

Karia highlighted the unique experience of creating a narrative film on an iPhone, emphasizing the device’s compact size and flexibility, enabling a more intimate approach to capturing characters on screen.

The film is now accessible for viewing on YouTube, boasting impressive visuals comparable to traditional cinema quality, thanks in part to the advanced features of Apple’s latest models. The iPhone 16 Pro offers enhanced capabilities like cinematic slow-motion at 4K 120 fps, a Cinematic mode for blurred background effects, and improved low-light performance.

For those interested, “Big Man” is also available on Amazon Prime. Stuart Bentley, the Director of Photography, expressed how smartphones have democratized filmmaking, making it accessible to a wider audience. He highlighted the versatility of the iPhone, citing features like Cinematic mode for depth of field effects and the ability to shoot high-quality slow-motion footage.

The film crew pushed the iPhone’s limits to deliver exceptional results, showcasing the device’s resilience and advanced capabilities. This marks another milestone in mobile filmmaking, following Apple’s previous use of the iPhone for professional video production back in 2023.
