Nigel Farage has rejected allegations of racism against one of his MPs who expressed frustration at seeing advertisements predominantly featuring Black and Asian individuals.
During a press briefing in London, the Reform UK leader expressed his disapproval of Sarah Pochin’s remarks, describing them as inappropriate and unattractive. Despite facing criticism from various political factions, Farage defended Pochin, emphasizing that her comments were not racially motivated.
Both the Labour and Liberal Democrats parties have demanded that Pochin be reprimanded for her statements, while Conservative member Chris Philp eventually labeled her remarks as racially discriminatory.
In response to the controversy, Keir Starmer criticized Farage for lacking leadership and failing to address the issue of racism within his party. The Prime Minister condemned Pochin’s comments as divisive and destructive, urging Farage to take decisive action against racism within his ranks.
Pochin issued an apology following a public outcry over her comments. She had agreed with a viewer’s complaint about the lack of diversity in advertising, expressing frustration at seeing advertisements predominantly featuring Black and Asian individuals.
Farage used the press conference to call on Parliament to intensify efforts to investigate the grooming gangs scandal. Despite previously urging for an inquiry, Farage expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of progress and proposed a joint effort by both the Commons and Lords to establish a special commission to address the issue.
