“MP Shaun Chen Resigns Due to Health Issues”

Date:

Liberal Member of Parliament Shaun Chen announced his resignation at the end of this week due to ongoing health issues resulting from a car accident last year. Chen, who has represented Scarborough North since 2015, revealed that injuries sustained in the accident have led to significant health challenges, limiting his ability to travel to Ottawa regularly for parliamentary duties. Following discussions with his family, Chen concluded that stepping down from his role in Parliament would be the best decision.

Having previously chaired the Toronto District School Board, Chen’s resignation adds to a recent trend of MPs leaving their positions. Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed gratitude for Chen’s efforts in advocating for youth and combating racism, wishing him a swift recovery and success in his future endeavors.

Joining the ranks of departing MPs this summer, former Liberal cabinet minister Steven Guilbeault and Conservative MP Cathay Wagantall are also set to vacate their seats soon. Additionally, Conservative MP Larry Brock intends to step down in mid-September for a new position in the Brantford Crown attorney’s office, while NDP MP Alexandre Boulerice plans to leave his Montreal seat to pursue provincial politics with Québec Solidaire.

Chen is scheduled to formally resign on Saturday, marking the end of his tenure in Parliament.
