“Montreal Roses Secure 2-0 Victory Over AFC Toronto”

Date:

Marie-Yasmine Alidou netted the decisive goal from a penalty kick in the 55th minute, leading the Montreal Roses to a 2-0 victory over AFC Toronto in Northern Super League competition on Sunday. Elyse Bennett contributed her ninth goal of the season to secure the win for the Roses, who currently hold the second position with a record of 9-4-3. This match marked the debut of interim head coach Maryse Bard-Martel.

Although Shelina Zadorsky seemed to equalize for Toronto in the 68th minute, her goal was disallowed due to an offside ruling. Montreal Roses’ goalkeeper, Anna Karpenko, made an outstanding performance facing 20 shots, nine of which were on target, to maintain a clean sheet.

Toronto’s keeper, Sabrina D’Angelo, was also put to the test, facing seven shots with five on target. The Roses bounced back in this game after parting ways with head coach Robert Rositoiu following a surprising 1-0 defeat against semi-pro team Simcoe County in the W Canadian Championship.
