“Millions Missing Out on Ultra-Fast Fiber Broadband Upgrade”

Date:

Many homes now have the option to upgrade to faster full-fiber broadband, as confirmed by BT’s Openreach network. Despite the availability of Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) technology, which can deliver internet speeds exceeding 700Mbps, a large number of households have not yet made the transition from traditional copper wires.

Recent data reveals that around 20 million residences and businesses can access FTTP technology. However, only about 38% of eligible households have switched to full fiber, leaving millions still reliant on slower and less reliable connections. For instance, a 500Mbps connection enables downloading a full HD movie in under two minutes, a significant improvement over the nearly 10 minutes it takes with copper wires.

Clive Selley, the Chief Executive of Openreach, emphasized the importance of digital connectivity in today’s world. He highlighted that full fiber not only enhances internet speed but also ensures reliability, catering to the increasing demands of the digital era. Selley encouraged individuals to contact their broadband providers to upgrade to full fiber.

To determine if full fiber is available in your area, check your postcode for potential enhancements. Contrary to common belief, the cost of full-fiber services has decreased in recent years, with speeds now attainable for under £30 per month. Some broadband prices offered via Openreach cables include Sky’s 300Mbps for £29 per month, EE’s 150Mbps for £28.99 per month, and BT’s 300Mbps for £32.99 per month.

While Openreach is a prominent broadband provider, consumers should explore other options, including alternative network providers like Community Fibre, Hyperoptic, Virgin Media, and CityFibre, to find the best deals.
