A Middlesbrough man convicted of sexually abusing children has been given an extended prison term. Connor Wright, 31, was apprehended when authorities searched his residence and discovered videos of him committing the offenses, revealing his tattoo in the footage.
During the trial at Teesside Crown Court, it was disclosed that Wright attempted to normalize the abuse by showing victims cartoon characters engaging in sexual activities. He coerced one child into silence by threatening them with incarceration if they disclosed the abuse, emphasizing that it was their secret.
Wright had previously confessed to 25 counts of child sexual offenses, including child rape, voyeurism, and engaging a child in sexual acts. The court heard that police found indecent images and prohibited content on Wright’s electronic devices, including cartoons depicting children’s characters in explicit scenarios. Subsequently, videos depicting Wright sexually assaulting children were uncovered.
A parent of one of the victims shared the lasting trauma inflicted on their child in court, branding Wright a monster. In a plea for leniency, Wright’s attorney highlighted his remorse and lack of clarity regarding his actions, indicating a sense of relief upon being caught.
Judge Joanne Kidd condemned Wright’s calculated use of computer-generated images to desensitize the victims to sexual abuse, labeling his manipulation as premeditated. Wright, residing in Middlesbrough, received a 23-year extended sentence, comprising 18 years in prison and five years on supervised release. A restraining order was issued to prevent contact with the victims, and Wright will be listed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Victoria Brown expressed satisfaction with the substantial prison term given to Wright for his despicable crimes, acknowledging the joint efforts of various investigative teams in bringing him to justice.
