“Malicious Chrome Extensions Expose 2 Million Users”

Date:

Chrome users are facing a significant security threat due to malicious extensions that could compromise their browsing activities. These extensions, discovered by the Koi Security team, initially appear harmless but later deploy spyware to steal sensitive data. It is estimated that over 2 million users have been affected by this issue, with 18 Chrome extensions identified as carriers of the malware.

The affected extensions include various tools such as emoji keyboards, weather services, YouTube enhancements, and more. Notably, some of these extensions also target the Edge browser powered by Chrome. To mitigate the risk, users are advised to clear their browsing data immediately and monitor their accounts for any suspicious activities. Enabling two-factor authentication and resetting browser settings to default are recommended steps to safeguard against potential threats.

Google has taken action by removing the compromised extensions from its store to prevent further infections. It is crucial for users to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect their online security and privacy.
