Part of the M1 motorway had to be shut down due to a vehicle crashing into a barrier and overturning. The incident occurred in South Yorkshire, specifically between Junction 30 for Balborough and Junction 31 for Aston. Emergency services promptly responded to the scene after the collision took place around 5:30 am, with police, fire, and ambulance services currently present.
To assist drivers, alternative routes have been set up to bypass the road closure. Although all lanes on the M1 northbound between J30 and J31 have since reopened post-accident, National Highways urged motorists to anticipate additional travel time as any residual traffic delays clear up.
Nevertheless, the road remains inaccessible northbound between J30 and J31 as recovery operations and road surface cleaning are ongoing at the site, as confirmed by National Highways. Fortunately, no significant delays have been reported in the vicinity.
Earlier this morning, National Highways officially announced the closure of a section of the M1 due to the accident. They stated, “The M1 in South Yorkshire is closed northbound between J30 (Barlborough) and J31 (Aston) due to a collision that occurred at approximately 05:30 this morning.” The statement further indicated the presence of South Yorkshire Police, Fire, Ambulance Services, and National Highways Traffic Officers at the scene.
