Forge FC managed to secure a 1-1 draw against FC Supra du Quebec in the Canadian Championship semifinal first leg with a late equalizer from Daniel Krutzen in the 95th minute at Stade Boreale on Tuesday night. Ibrahim Conde had initially put Supra in the lead, but they struggled once again to see out the game.
Supra’s head coach, Nick Razzaghi, expressed disappointment despite being one game away from the final, acknowledging the team’s character and solid defense while recognizing their need for improvement. Both teams made significant lineup changes compared to their previous encounter in the Canadian Premier League.
Forge, a consistent CPL top performer, adjusted their game after a challenging first match and displayed a more competitive performance. Coach Bobby Smyrniotis emphasized the importance of avoiding complacency and praised the team’s efforts as they head back to their strong home ground at Hamilton Stadium.
Supra initially took the lead in the 36th minute through Conde’s goal, capitalizing on a counterattack orchestrated by Loic Kwemi. Forge responded with strong attacking plays but failed to convert before halftime. In the second half, Forge intensified their pressure, creating numerous scoring opportunities that tested Supra’s defense.
Krutzen’s crucial equalizer in stoppage time salvaged a draw for Forge, highlighting their resilience and determination. The second leg of the semifinal is set for September 15 in Hamilton, where Forge aims to capitalize on their home advantage and secure a spot in the Championship final.
