Renowned TV personality Jeremy Clarkson recently shared an incident involving his colleague Kaleb Cooper, who had to remove a customer from their pub, The Farmer’s Dog, on its opening day after a brief interaction.
The duo’s adventures in managing Diddly Squat Farm on their popular Amazon Prime show have garnered a strong fan following.
In 2024, Clarkson, previously known for hosting “Grand Tour,” decided to establish a new pub adjacent to his farm in Oxfordshire.
In his latest book titled “Diddly Squat: The Farmer’s Dog,” the 65-year-old detailed the challenges faced during the pub’s initial phase due to delays, bureaucracy, and costly errors.
Clarkson recounted various hurdles, from installing a defibrillator to adhering to fire safety regulations for a vintage tractor meant to be a decorative piece.
Upon the pub’s grand opening, Clarkson introduced a unique concept of an exclusive upstairs bar reserved solely for farm workers.
Despite his strict policy of allowing only farmers upstairs, the rule was tested when a man attempted to enter but failed to answer a farming-related question correctly.
Kaleb, known for his direct approach, swiftly identified the impostor with a farming knowledge quiz and promptly ejected him.
The chaotic opening day also saw water and power issues, leading Clarkson to admit that things did not go as planned.
Although improvements have been made since then, Clarkson advised future visitors to be understanding of any service hiccups.
The pub, formerly named The Windmill, underwent a rebranding and was reopened by Clarkson on August 23, 2024, in Asthall near Burford, Oxfordshire.
At the pub, Clarkson offers his own Hawkstone lager and emphasizes sourcing all ingredients from British farmers, except for a few like quinine, which cannot be locally produced.
In a statement on the pub’s website, Clarkson expressed the commitment to supporting British farming as much as possible despite some ingredient limitations.
