Prince Albert authorities announced the discovery of human remains on Thursday while searching for a missing teenager who disappeared in June. The search, which involved the city’s public works and fire departments along with Prince Albert Grand Council Search and Rescue, led to the finding of the body in the vicinity of the 300 block of 40th Street East, as per a police statement.
Scheduled for Tuesday, an autopsy will be conducted to confirm the identity of the individual and determine the cause and manner of death. The mother of the missing teenager, Peyton Flett, named Danica Moore, revealed that the police informed her of their belief that the body belongs to her daughter. She refrained from providing further comments on the matter.
Authorities disclosed that the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, alongside the police major crimes and forensic identification units, are jointly conducting an investigation into the suspicious death. Previously, a news conference was held on Wednesday involving the police, the Prince Albert Grand Council, Shoal Lake Cree Nation, and Flett’s parents, appealing to the public for any information that could aid in locating her.
The last known sighting of Flett was reported on June 16 or 17 at Marquis Road and Central Avenue near Northern Lights Casino. Police continue their investigation at the location where the body was discovered, focusing on a wooded area near 40th Street. Traffic restrictions are in place on the street, and authorities advise the public to avoid the area. Updates on the investigation will be shared as they become available.
