Statistics Canada reported that a significant number of drivers crossed the Gordie Howe International Bridge into Canada during the initial days following its opening. The highly anticipated bridge, linking Windsor and Detroit, finally opened for traffic on July 27, following several weeks of delays. According to preliminary data from StatCan, there were 18,900 return trips by Canadian residents from the United States via the Gordie Howe bridge in the first five days of its operation. During the same period, 18,100 U.S. residents entered Canada by crossing the bridge.
In addition, StatCan noted that the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, two other key border crossings in the region, recorded a total of 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadians and U.S. residents over the same timeframe. Furthermore, commercial transport trucks made 4,100 trips to Canada using the Gordie Howe bridge in the final five days of July.
