A recent undisclosed regulation change means the 49-year-old may no longer have a guaranteed entry into prestigious events like the BMW PGA Championship, Dubai Desert Classic, and the Scottish Open. Previously classified in the legends category, Stenson and other top earners have seen their qualification status downgraded from Category 5 to Category 11a.
Despite accumulating over £28 million throughout his career and ranking seventh in career earnings, Stenson’s return to the tour after being expelled from LIV Golf includes serving a suspension. This alteration in rules impacts not only Stenson but also golf stalwarts like Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, and Paul Casey, introducing doubts in their eligibility for upcoming tournaments.
