“Frost Captain Kendall Coyne Schofield Signs Two-Year Deal”

Date:

The Minnesota Frost have officially re-signed their captain, Kendall Coyne Schofield, to a new two-year deal, putting to rest any speculations about her taking a break following her recent Olympic success. This move ensures continuity in the team’s veteran leadership group, which has been pivotal since clinching back-to-back Walter Cup titles in 2024 and 2025. Alongside alternate captains Lee Stecklein and Kelly Pannek, Coyne Schofield expressed her excitement about the upcoming seasons, aiming to reclaim the prestigious trophy for Minnesota.

Hailing from Chicago, Coyne Schofield boasts an impressive resume as a four-time Olympian and two-time gold medalist. Notably, she played a crucial role in the formation of the PWHL back in the summer of 2023. Despite facing an upper-body injury setback during the Milan-Cortina Games, Coyne Schofield managed to tally 12 goals and 23 points in 23 games last season. Her career stats of 63 points (30 goals, 33 assists) in 77 PWHL appearances rank her third on the league’s all-time list.

Initially signed as one of the Frost’s foundational players, Coyne Schofield’s future with the team was uncertain after being left unsigned during the PWHL’s expansion phase in June. With this fresh agreement, the Frost now have a total of 17 players under contract, including key members of their championship-winning squads. Despite finishing third in the standings last season, the team faced a disappointing elimination in a crucial Game 5 of the semifinals against eventual champions Montreal.
