A man in Dartford, Justin Yearsley, has been issued a £500 fine for fly-tipping allegedly linked to his friend, Paul Attree, who disposed of an old birthday card envelope with Justin’s details. Despite Paul’s attempts to clarify the situation with Dartford council through an email, no response has been received.
Justin, residing in Meadowside, Dartford, explained that his parents, at whose address the fine was sent, were away during the period in question. The 52-year-old expressed frustration over the lack of response from the council, emphasizing that he is innocent and seeking resolution to the issue.
The incident stemmed from Justin temporarily residing with his friend Paul in Greenhithe after his marriage ended. A sentimental birthday card from his ex-wife, left in a bag of keepsakes in Paul’s shed, inadvertently ended up in the rubbish during a clear-out.
Paul denies intentional fly-tipping, attributing the overflow of bins in the area as a contributing factor to the misunderstanding. He voluntarily paid a fine from Amazon related to alleged fly-tipping due to an Amazon box with his details found near the bin.
Both friends are advocating for the council to address waste management issues in the area to prevent similar incidents. Justin highlighted the severe stress caused by the situation, leading to health complications and financial strain. Despite Paul’s admission of responsibility in a letter to the council, Dartford council has not provided any response to date.
