A former TV news anchor, Angelynn ‘Angie’ Mock, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection to the fatal stabbing of her elderly mother. The incident took place at their shared residence in Wichita, Kansas, where officers found Mock covered in blood awaiting their arrival.
Mock, 47, who previously worked for Fox 2 News in St. Louis, Missouri, was discovered outside the home alongside her mother, Anita Avers, who was found with multiple stab wounds in a bed. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Anita, an 80-year-old marriage and family therapist, was pronounced dead at 8:26 am.
Upon the authorities’ arrival, Mock, who had cuts on her hands, received medical treatment for unspecified injuries before being taken into custody. She is currently held on a $1 million bond at Sedgwick County Jail on the first-degree murder charge. The status of her legal representation or plea is not yet confirmed.
Neighbors reported encountering Mock in a distressed state, covered in blood, and seeking help to call 911. The incident has been described as a domestic dispute, with 911 dispatchers indicating that the situation involved self-defense. Mock, who transitioned from journalism to sales, had been working at a data management software company at the time of her arrest.
Mock’s career trajectory began as a sports reporter before transitioning to prominent news roles before ultimately pursuing a different professional path in 2015.
