A father has made a remarkable decision to forgive a 10-year-old boy who confessed to fatally shooting his son, Brandon O’Quinn Rasberry, while he was asleep in a camper. The tragic incident occurred in 2022 when the child, who was below the age of criminal responsibility, admitted to the killing.
Kenneth, the father of the victim, expressed his astonishment at the young boy’s actions, stating that the child needs understanding and support. The shooting took place at the Lazy J RV Park in Texas, where Brandon had recently relocated. The discovery of his body was made after he failed to show up for work for two consecutive days.
Following revelations about the incident, the Gonzalez County Sheriff’s Office was alerted by a school official about the boy’s disturbing behavior, including threats of violence towards another student. During questioning, the boy revealed details of how he obtained a pistol from his grandfather’s truck and used it to shoot Brandon while he was sleeping in his home.
The child, who claimed to be unfamiliar with Brandon, returned the gun to the truck after the shooting. Investigators were able to locate the weapon at a pawn shop, and ballistic testing confirmed it as the murder weapon. Due to the severity of the crime and concerns for the child’s mental well-being, he was placed under emergency detention and subsequently transferred to a psychiatric facility for evaluation and treatment.
The child will not be returning to his former school, as stated by Nixon-Smiley Superintendent Jeff Van Auken in a letter addressed to parents. The incident has raised questions about the mental health and upbringing of the young boy, emphasizing the need for support and guidance in such challenging situations.
