FatFace Store Closure in Bournemouth Sparks Concern

Date:

FatFace has recently closed its store located on Old Christchurch Road in Bournemouth, leaving residents questioning the retail landscape in the town. The closure was sudden, with a notice posted on the store’s door directing customers to shop online at FatFace.com. Despite a QR code on the sign, there is no further explanation for the closure.

Inside the store, a chalkboard with a message thanking customers for their patronage further highlighted the closure. The news of the shutdown has sparked discussions among shoppers on social media platforms like Facebook, with some expressing disappointment over the loss of another retail outlet in Bournemouth.

This closure follows the shutdown of FatFace’s Peterborough branch in June. Established in 1988 by Tim Slade, FatFace experienced changes in ownership, with Next acquiring the brand in 2023. Despite the acquisition, FatFace is set to maintain its unique identity and management structure.

In a similar trend, BrewDog announced the closure of ten of its bars, including the Camden branch. Additionally, Lakeland is preparing to close a store in Reading, evident from ongoing clearance sales. Asda also plans to shut down its Stepney Green branch due to commercial viability concerns, potentially affecting 50 jobs.

Furthermore, Poundland is set to close 68 stores and two warehouses after being acquired by Gordon Brothers. These closures reflect the evolving retail landscape and the challenges faced by various retailers in the current market conditions.
