An American woman, Lena Deoliveira, aged 23, was arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly striking her boyfriend, Johnathon Granados, with a hatchet while he was sleeping. The incident occurred in Fargo, North Dakota, resulting in Mr. Granados sustaining a severe head injury and losing multiple fingers.
According to an anonymous witness present during the attack, he heard the sound of the hatchet striking Mr. Granados, describing it as similar to “splitting wood.” The witness reported waking up to screams and witnessing Lena swinging the hatchet at her boyfriend. Lena appeared disoriented during the attack, as described by the witness.
After the attack, Lena seemed to regain consciousness upon hearing a noise from a recliner chair and noticing blood around her. She fled the scene and was apprehended two days later in Moorhead, Minnesota. Mr. Granados managed to call 911 himself and reported that he had been alone when Deoliveira assaulted him, although the witness’s presence was later revealed.
Investigators discovered a blood trail leading from the house’s garage where the incident occurred. Mr. Granados underwent surgery for his severe injuries, including the fingers that were damaged during the attack. Deoliveira refused to cooperate with the police upon her arrest and is facing charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault, being held on a $500,000 bond.
Deoliveira appeared in Cass County court on September 12 and is scheduled for another court appearance on October 16. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities piecing together the events leading up to the violent attack.
