Chilling text exchanges have unveiled the confusion and distress surrounding the night Martha Nolan, a fashion designer, passed away on a yacht in New York.
Nolan had visited the Montauk Yacht Club in the Hamptons on August 5 to meet with wealthy insurance executive Christopher Durnan to discuss funding for her fashion brand. Durnan suggested a discussion for additional funding, as reported by New York Magazine.
After leaving the dock on his fishing boat to enjoy champagne and watch the sunset, Nolan suddenly stopped responding to her friends. Concerned, her friends used the Find My app to track her location, which indicated her phone was in the Atlantic Ocean. A friend humorously speculated that her phone may have died, or worse, she might have perished.
Following a brief silence, Nolan messaged that she was at the yacht club and her phone was functioning. Regrettably, that was the final communication from her before she was discovered unresponsive on a friend’s yacht. Concurrently, witnesses observed Durnan running nude along the dock, shouting for assistance and tossing sunscreen at a nearby boat.
Local authorities were alerted close to midnight and are now investigating the events leading up to Nolan’s death, with friends expressing concerns about Durnan’s actions. One friend raised questions about Durnan’s nudity, pondering if something had happened to Nolan.
Durnan’s attorney, Robert Holdman, explained that Durnan disrobed because his clothes were soaked in Nolan’s vomit while they were on the yacht’s deck discussing business. According to Holdman, Nolan suddenly collapsed around 10:30-11:00 pm, leading Durnan to believe she was having a heart attack. Despite attempting CPR, Nolan was unresponsive, and Durnan did not contact emergency services promptly.
Holdman refuted any delays in seeking help, emphasizing that Durnan cooperated fully with authorities. He also mentioned that Nolan excused herself twice during the evening to use the bathroom, which could have various interpretations.
The lawyer further clarified that a white powder visible in deck photos was residue from police fingerprinting. Holdman described Durnan as devastated by the events, emphasizing his desire to support Nolan and her endeavors.
Durnan had a previous legal entanglement in 2021, involving an altercation at a 9/11 memorial concert. Holdman contended that Durnan was aiding a band member’s wife during the incident and denied drug possession allegations, leading to a guilty plea for disorderly conduct.
Nolan, known for her active social life in Manhattan, documented her adventures on TikTok, showcasing lavish experiences with her boyfriend before her tragic demise. Originally from Ireland, Nolan pursued a commerce degree at University College Dublin before moving to the US to establish multiple fashion labels.
Authorities are exploring the potential involvement of drugs in Nolan’s death, with reports suggesting detectives are investigating potential suppliers. A law enforcement source indicated that regardless of the sellers’ awareness, high-profile cases could result in more arrests.
While a preliminary post-mortem did not reveal signs of violence, the official cause of death is pending further tests, including toxicology and histology. Family members from Ireland have requested a second autopsy to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Nolan’s passing.
