“Explosions at Jakarta School During Prayers: Dozens Injured”

Date:

Dozens of individuals sustained injuries following explosions that occurred at a school during Friday prayers in Indonesia. The blasts occurred in the Kelapa Gading neighborhood of Jakarta earlier today. Presently, three individuals are in critical condition in the hospital, with a 17-year-old identified as the “suspected perpetrator.” Additionally, approximately 17 other students are receiving medical care in the aftermath of the explosion.

The Indonesian Police bomb squad members are currently examining the mosque within the school where the explosions took place. Witnesses reported hearing two loud blasts shortly after midday, coinciding with the beginning of the sermon at the religious venue.

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police is actively investigating the background of the suspect and the potential motives behind the incident that shook Kelapa Gading, a district in North Jakarta. Some victims have been treated by medical personnel and subsequently discharged, according to local media sources.

Deputy House Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad informed reporters that the suspect, a 17-year-old male student, is undergoing surgery. National Police Chief Listyo Sigit confirmed that the suspect was one of two students requiring surgery due to severe injuries sustained in the explosions.

Sigit stated that the police force has identified the suspected perpetrator and is conducting an extensive investigation to ascertain the suspect’s identity and living environment, including their residence and other relevant details.

Furthermore, police investigators are in the process of gathering information to determine the motive behind the incident, including how the suspect managed to assemble a toy submachine gun with specific inscriptions like “14 words. For Agartha” and “Brenton Tarrant: Welcome to hell.”

Most of the victims suffered injuries from glass fragments and burns. The exact cause of the explosions remains unknown, but they originated from near the mosque’s loudspeaker, as per Jakarta Police Chief Asep Edi Suheri. The injured individuals were swiftly transported to nearby hospitals, with 20 students still hospitalized for burns, including three with severe injuries.
