“EE Users Warned of Scam Texts Threatening Reward Points Loss”

Date:

EE mobile users are being cautioned about a resurgence of a scam text message. Cybersecurity experts from Bitdefender are alerting customers about urgent messages claiming the imminent loss of thousands of EE reward points unless immediate action is taken.

According to Bitdefender, scammers are posing as EE to entice individuals into clicking on malicious links that lead to fake websites designed to steal login information for financial gain. The success of this scam lies in creating a sense of urgency to prompt quick responses from unsuspecting users.

Bitdefender highlighted the deceptive tactic employed by scammers, emphasizing that genuine EE alerts are only accessible within official EE accounts and not through unsolicited texts. Users are advised to treat any message pressuring for quick action as suspicious and to report such texts to 7726 before deleting them.

This type of scam has targeted EE customers in the past, with instances reported earlier this year. Users have recounted falling victim to convincing fake messages regarding reward points, cautioning others to exercise vigilance.

EE has clarified that it does not run a points program and has shared examples of scam messages circulating, urging users to redeem supposed rewards within a limited timeframe.

To avoid falling prey to such scams, EE users are advised to refrain from clicking on unknown links in text messages, responding to suspicious messages, calling the provided numbers, or sharing personal and financial details.

Stay alert if you are an EE user and be cautious of potential scam attempts.
