Entering the final two rounds, Henderson trails leader Soo Bin Joo of South Korea by four strokes, who sits at 9 under at Edmonton’s Royal Mayfair Golf Club. Henderson’s strong performance was marred by two late bogeys, one of which struck a spectator after drifting left. Henderson promptly apologized to the spectator and offered her a golf ball in a gesture of goodwill.
Aphrodite Deng from Calgary, who was the top amateur in last year’s tournament in Mississauga, ended her round with consecutive birdies to finish at 3 under with a score of 67.
In this $2.75 million US event, the top 65 players and ties will advance to the next round. Canadian teenagers Anna Huang of Vancouver and Michelle Xing of Richmond Hill, Ontario, started the day at 5 under and were scheduled for afternoon tee times to continue their pursuit of success on the course.
