A convicted murderer serving time in prison for the gruesome killing of her own mother has once again found herself in court for a violent incident. Jessica Camilleri, known for her shocking crime that stunned the public, is facing additional jail time after admitting to assaulting a prison guard.
Camilleri, already serving a lengthy sentence for the 2019 murder of her mother in Sydney, was found guilty of manslaughter due to severe mental illness. Despite being acquitted of murder, she inflicted over 100 stab wounds on her mother, Rita, and mutilated her body.
This recent incident is not the first time Camilleri has displayed violent behavior while incarcerated. She has a history of attacking prison staff, leading to extensions of her sentence. In her most recent court appearance following an assault on prison officials at Long Bay Correctional Centre, Camilleri pleaded guilty to assaulting a law enforcement officer causing bodily harm.
This marks the fourth time she has faced similar charges since being imprisoned. Camilleri had previously pleaded guilty to assaulting officers at Silverwater Women’s Correctional Centre in 2022. Video evidence presented in court showed her violently attacking guards.
Camilleri’s pattern of aggression continued with an attack on a Corrective Services officer at Dillwynia Correctional Centre, resulting in additional jail time. Despite her struggles behind bars, including conflicts with correctional officers, Camilleri is set to appear in court again on October 22.
