“Community in Dalkeith Stops Drunken BMW Driver”

Date:

A local community in Dalkeith, Scotland, came together to detain a BMW driver who crashed through a garden fence. Joseph Naismith, under the influence of alcohol or drugs, caused damage to multiple fences on Thornybank Grove before being subdued by residents. Police intervened and arrested Naismith, who has since been banned from driving for 15 months.

Video footage captured the chaotic aftermath of the incident, showing the destruction caused to a family’s garden by the vehicle. According to a witness, Naismith attempted to reverse the car but was stopped by two men who restrained him until law enforcement arrived.

During the court hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, Naismith admitted to reckless driving, crashing into fences, and driving while unfit due to substance use. As a result, he received a 15-month driving ban, a fine of £600, and a £40 victim surcharge, with an obligation to complete an extended driving test.

Residents expressed relief that no one was injured during the crash, emphasizing the potential danger to children who could have been playing in the affected area. Shona Halliday, a witness to the event, recounted how Naismith’s vehicle plowed through multiple fences before being apprehended by locals and later detained by the authorities.
