After over ten years of conducting interviews with movie stars, musicians, and athletes over some fried chicken, Amelia Dimoldenberg, the host of the well-known YouTube talk show “Chicken Shop Date,” revealed this week that she is bringing the show to a close.
Dimoldenberg expressed her sentiments in an Instagram post, describing the show as her personal romantic comedy that has brought joy to her viewers. Despite initially thinking that “Chicken Shop Date” would be a permanent part of her life, she feels it’s time to embark on a new adventure.
The show, which Dimoldenberg launched 12 years ago by interviewing musicians in Britain’s underground rap scene, evolved to feature conversations with celebrities like Keke Palmer, Conan O’Brien, Paul McCartney, and Jack Harlow, amassing nearly 3.5 million subscribers on her YouTube channel.
“Chicken Shop Date” maintains a simple yet engaging format where Dimoldenberg takes a celebrity for a casual date at a fried chicken shop in London, asking a mix of flirty, humorous, and occasionally awkward questions. The dynamic often simulates the banter of a first date rather than a traditional interview, with instances of genuine flirtation, such as with Andrew Garfield in 2024.
Among her various interviews, Dimoldenberg has engaged with Canadians, including Ryan Reynolds, who made a faux pas regarding his wife Blake Lively’s character on “Gossip Girl,” corrected by Dimoldenberg. Notably, Shania Twain disclosed in her 2023 episode that she had never met Brad Pitt, despite referencing him in her hit song “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”
Beyond the chicken shop setting, Dimoldenberg’s YouTube success has opened doors to other opportunities, like covering the Oscars red carpet and interviewing figures like Hudson Williams. While her future plans post-“Chicken Shop Date” remain undisclosed, Dimoldenberg is set to develop a young adult drama series for the BBC.
In her farewell message, Dimoldenberg hinted at a few more episodes before bidding farewell to the show for good.
