BT Broadband customers in the UK are in for a pleasant surprise as BT Mobile is set to make a comeback in the market. Following a halt in new customer sign-ups in 2023, BT Mobile is now returning to provide SIM deals to existing broadband customers.
The decision marks a significant shift in strategy for BT, which had been focusing on its EE network brand. By reintroducing BT-branded SIM deals, the company aims to enhance the visibility of its longstanding brand, which had taken a backseat to EE in recent years.
CEO Allison Kirkby, who assumed leadership in 2024, is committed to revitalizing BT’s presence among UK households amid concerns about the brand’s diminishing recognition. Kirkby emphasized the importance of investing in brands, products, and services during an event at Wembley, highlighting the company’s recent network investments.
The reintroduction of BT Mobile will position the company in direct competition with key providers like Vodafone and O2, as well as budget-friendly networks such as Giffgaff, Tesco Mobile, and SMARTY. While specific pricing details are yet to be disclosed, BT plans to offer bundled packages combining broadband, landline, and mobile SIM services on a single monthly bill.
Industry analyst Paolo Pescatore views this move as a strategic effort to stay relevant in the increasingly competitive telecoms market. Pescatore stressed the importance of execution in proving the network’s capacity to meet real-world demands at scale for long-term success.
Additionally, BT announced its partnership as the official telecoms provider for the UEFA Euro 2028 tournament, to be held across Britain and Ireland. Pescatore emphasized the significance of this deal as a means to showcase BT’s scale, relevance, and delivery, underscoring the unifying power of sports in connecting communities and fostering emotional bonds.
