A British traveler passed away at a popular Greek vacation spot where his body was retrieved from the water. The 57-year-old individual is the third fatality at Prasonisi, Rhodes, after being discovered in the waters on Sunday, September 7, around midday. Responders found the Brit unresponsive with no pulse upon reaching the shore. Despite being rushed to Gennadi Health Centre by paramedics, he could not be revived and was later declared deceased at the hospital. Authorities from the Lindos Port Authority have initiated an investigation into the circumstances of the death, with an autopsy scheduled to determine the precise cause.
Prasonisi, located at the southern tip of Rhodes, is known for its windy conditions, attracting windsurfing and kitesurfing enthusiasts due to the strong and consistent Meltemi winds. The area comprises a sandy beach and a small rocky island, with a sandbar often connecting the Aegean and Mediterranean seas.
This tragic incident follows the recent death of a 26-year-old British man in Rhodes, whose body was also recovered from the sea. The individual was found unconscious after swimming off Lindos, the historic tourist capital of Rhodes, on August 16. Despite emergency responders rushing to the scene, he could not be revived and was later pronounced dead at the Archangelos Health Centre. Local law enforcement indicated they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, with an autopsy requested by the Forensic Medical Service.
A statement from the UK Foreign Office confirmed their support for the family of the deceased British man in Greece and their ongoing communication with local authorities.
In a separate incident in June, a 68-year-old British national died on a beach in Greece after losing consciousness while swimming. Central Port Authority officers promptly responded to Lindos beach in Rhodes, transporting the individual to the nearby Archangelos health center, where he was pronounced dead.
