The loved ones of a British man who passed away after receiving dental treatment and a hair transplant in Turkey have honored him as the beacon of their happiness.
Mentor Rama, 36, traveled to Istanbul for the procedures but fell ill upon returning to his hotel room. He was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where he tragically died on November 11.
Following his death, Rama’s body was transferred to the Council of Forensic Medicine in Istanbul, prompting an investigation by the police.
The FCDO spokesperson stated, “We are assisting the family of the deceased British man in Turkey and are coordinating with local authorities.”
A heartfelt message posted on a family member’s public Facebook page expressed deep sorrow over the loss, emphasizing Rama’s irreplaceable presence in their lives.
Rama’s remains have been repatriated to the UK, as reported by Turkish media. Turkey has emerged as a popular choice for Britons seeking cost-effective cosmetic procedures, despite risks associated with such treatments.
According to the Foreign Office, 28 British nationals have died in Turkey post elective surgeries between March 2019 and March 2024. The country’s clinics are renowned for offering comprehensive “medical tourism packages.”
Many individuals opt to travel to Turkey for dental treatments like “Turkey teeth,” which are notably cheaper compared to the UK. However, dental professionals caution against undergoing procedures in Turkey due to potential complications.
