Brad Pitt Sues Angelina Jolie for $35 Million

Date:

Brad Pitt has reportedly filed a lawsuit against his former wife Angelina Jolie, seeking $35 million and requesting the release of undisclosed communications between them amid the ongoing contentious legal battle post their divorce.

The Hollywood actors have been embroiled in a prolonged conflict following Pitt’s accusation that Jolie violated their previous agreement concerning their shared French winery, Chateau Miraval.

The couple had jointly purchased the winery in 2011 for approximately $60 million during happier times. However, with Jolie initiating divorce proceedings in 2019, there are speculations about her considering selling the property. Nonetheless, Pitt and Jolie had supposedly agreed not to sell their shares without mutual consent.

Recent court filings on October 29, as reported by PEOPLE, revealed an email correspondence between the legal teams of the ex-spouses. Pitt’s lawsuit claims $35 million in damages due to the alleged breach by Jolie.

Furthermore, Pitt’s legal representation has pressed for the release of 22 documents related to a potential Miraval sale. Jolie has cited attorney-client privilege in her refusal to provide these documents, leading Pitt’s attorneys to argue that she is misusing the privilege to conceal crucial evidence central to the case.

Jolie’s legal representatives have countered by mentioning Pitt’s insistence on a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) covering his personal misconduct. They stress the necessity of producing these documents for transparency.

While Jolie asserts that Pitt wanted her to sign an NDA to silence her about his alleged mistreatment of her and their children, Pitt’s side argues that the NDA pertained to standard business protection concerning Miraval and its potential sale.

In response to Jolie’s denial of the agreement not to sell shares without dual consent, Pitt initiated legal actions in 2022. Jolie has reciprocated with a counter-suit, disputing the existence of such an agreement.

The former couple, who first met on the set of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” in 2005, got married in 2014 after Pitt’s separation from actress Jennifer Aniston. However, their marriage ended in 2016, finalizing in divorce in 2019, with six children from their union.

A public hearing is scheduled for December 17, with Jolie’s legal counsel expressing anticipation for the upcoming proceedings. They criticize Pitt’s lawsuit as an attempt to intrude on privileged communications and control Jolie.

The Mirror has reached out to representatives of both Pitt and Jolie for their responses on the matter.
