A young boy in Sheffield suffered facial injuries after being attacked by a dog while playing in a local park, according to authorities.
The incident occurred when the five-year-old was at Schofield Street Park in Mexborough on Thursday and was approached aggressively by an unleashed dog, identified as a bull breed. The dog proceeded to attack the child’s face, causing injuries to his eye, ears, and cheeks.
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police expressed regret over the incident, stating that what should have been a joyful outing turned into a parent’s worst nightmare. The boy received medical treatment for his wounds, which are feared to leave lasting physical scars.
Law enforcement officers promptly responded to the scene, apprehending a 29-year-old man suspected of owning a dog deemed dangerously out of control. The man was later released on bail, while the dog was placed in police custody, as per YorkshireLive.
