Boxing Legend Ricky Hatton Found Deceased

Date:

Paul Gascoigne expressed deep sorrow upon learning of the passing of his close friend Ricky Hatton. The renowned boxer was discovered deceased at his residence in Manchester in September, sending shockwaves through the sports community. Hatton, a beloved figure in the boxing world, was laid to rest in Manchester Cathedral last month, with a significant turnout of mourners paying their respects. The subsequent inquiry disclosed that he had been found deceased by hanging.

At 46 years old, Hatton, a fervent Manchester City supporter, had strong ties to the football world beyond just his allegiance to the Etihad Stadium. Hatton and former England football star Gascoigne collaborated on a speaking tour, forming a bond over their shared charismatic personalities.

Reflecting on their time together, Gascoigne shared, “I had the privilege of appearing at a few events with him – such a loss, a remarkable individual, a true character. He was much like myself – always willing to help others and would give everything he had. It was truly heartbreaking.”

Known for his mischievous antics during his playing days with clubs like Newcastle, Tottenham, and Rangers, Gascoigne recounted a humorous incident involving Hatton during a shared hotel stay. Despite his boxing career boasting 45 victories and only three losses, Hatton’s down-to-earth nature endeared him to countless fans and supporters.

In a poignant tribute following Hatton’s passing, his family emphasized, “Richard was more than just a boxing champion to us. He was simply ‘Richard,’ our son. A loving father, grandfather, brother, and a dear friend to many. His heart was as big as his smile, and his kindness, humor, and loyalty touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.”

While Hatton had openly discussed struggles with addiction and suicidal thoughts in the past, his family indicated that he had been in a positive state before his untimely death. His manager, Paul Speak, who discovered him deceased, stated, “I firmly believe he didn’t intend to do it… he had everything to live for.”
