The FBI has disclosed that Tyler Robinson, the alleged perpetrator of the assassination attempt on Charlie Kirk, left a disturbing note expressing his intent to harm the conservative activist. According to Director Kash Patel, Robinson had indicated in a written message his plan to eliminate Kirk when the opportunity arose.
Authorities found DNA evidence linking Robinson to the crime scene, including on a towel and a screwdriver associated with the weapon used in the attack. Although the original note was destroyed, investigators were able to reconstruct its contents. Kirk, who was shot while speaking at Utah Valley University, was targeted during his American Comeback Tour, which attracted a significant following of young conservatives.
Following a nationwide search, Robinson surrendered to authorities after his father encouraged him to do so. Utah Governor Spencer Cox revealed that Robinson had adopted radical beliefs after being influenced by leftist ideologies, despite coming from a conservative background. Robinson’s partner, who is transitioning genders, cooperated with authorities and expressed shock over the incident.
Friends described Robinson as intelligent and interested in current events, although he had no prior criminal record. Despite claiming no political affiliation, he was found to have sent messages mocking his resemblance to the FBI suspect in photos. Only after his father recognized him in official images did Robinson turn himself in, ending the manhunt.
Patel, addressing criticism of the investigation, clarified that the case would not be politicized. While acknowledging a social media misstep regarding an arrest announcement, he defended his transparency in communicating FBI actions. Robinson, facing charges of aggravated murder and firearm offenses, is currently in custody at Utah County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court virtually.
The FBI is now delving into Robinson’s digital records and conducting interviews to determine the motive behind the attack. The incident involving Kirk, a polarizing figure in conservative circles, has heightened tensions in the political landscape.
