Apple’s AirTag proves to be a must-have solution for those constantly misplacing their keys. Launched in 2021, these compact trackers have gained popularity for their ability to pinpoint lost items on a map accurately. Their small size allows for easy attachment to keys, bags, laptop cases, or luggage.
Upon approaching the AirTag, your iPhone offers precise on-screen directions, while the AirTag can emit a sound to aid in locating it. The latest AirTag iteration now boasts an enhanced Ultra Wideband chip, extending its range significantly.
Apple reports that this upgrade enhances Precision Finding by up to 50%, making it simpler to locate lost items from greater distances. Select Apple Watch models now support Precision Finding, enabling users to track down misplaced items directly from their wrist.
Furthermore, Apple has improved the volume output of the new AirTag by 50% through a redesigned internal speaker. This enhancement proves beneficial when trying to locate the AirTag in hard-to-find spots like behind furniture or under clutter.
The AirTags continue to leverage Apple’s Find My network, utilizing nearby Apple devices to relay location updates anonymously. The system has been revamped to prioritize privacy, ensuring that the AirTag does not store location history and all communications with the Find My network are end-to-end encrypted, safeguarding the owner’s visibility of its location.
The updated AirTag seamlessly integrates with Share Item Location, an iOS feature allowing users to securely share an item’s location with trusted third parties, such as airlines, to aid in retrieving lost luggage or belongings. Apple has collaborated with over 50 airlines to support this functionality.
The new AirTag is now available for purchase on apple.com/uk and the Apple Store app, with in-store availability coming soon. Notably, prices start at £29 for a single AirTag or £99 for a pack of four, offering a more cost-effective option compared to the original, which began at £35.
