A popular streaming app that provided free access to various content has officially shut down, delivering a blow to users of Fire TV Sticks and other streaming devices. Amazon’s Freevee platform, known for its ad-supported content and lack of subscription fees, has transitioned its extensive catalog to Prime Video as of September 1.
Freevee users are now required to switch to the Prime Video app and log in using their Amazon account to continue watching their favorite shows and movies. The Freevee app will remain accessible until August 2025, allowing users to enjoy Freevee Originals and a library of content on Prime Video without any subscription fees.
While there are no additional costs involved, Freevee users may come across boxsets and movies that require a Prime subscription or a one-time payment. This strategic move could potentially encourage Freevee users to subscribe to Prime Video or opt for movie rentals. Existing Prime Video account holders will benefit from a consolidated viewing experience within a single app, eliminating the need to switch between Freevee and Prime Video platforms.
The transition aims to streamline content access for users and provide a seamless viewing experience across Amazon’s platforms.
