Amazon’s Alexa+ platform, a more advanced version of the Alexa voice assistant, has been launched in the UK for users of Echo smart speakers. This upgrade allows for more natural and conversational interactions with Alexa, who can now personalize responses based on user preferences, routines, and interests. The tone of Alexa’s responses can also vary, becoming more cheerful or tailored to specific events like a football game win.
Alexa+ offers features such as personalized recommendations for films, recipes, and sports updates, tailored to individual interests. Users can also utilize Alexa+ to create shopping lists, track prices, receive delivery alerts, and compare products through online reviews. Controlling smart home devices is made easier with voice commands that enable actions like adjusting lights and setting custom Routines without the need to open the Alexa app.
Furthermore, Alexa+ simplifies managing whole-home speaker setups, allowing users to move music around the house effortlessly by voice commands. The platform has been optimized to understand British users’ communication patterns and cultural nuances, offering a more personalized experience.
To address privacy concerns, Amazon has included privacy features in Alexa+, such as the Alexa Privacy dashboard for managing interactions and voice recordings. Early Access to Alexa+ is currently available for free with subsequent access priced at £19.99 per month after the Early Access period ends, except for Prime members who will continue to receive free access. Amazon plans to invite hundreds of thousands of customers to join Alexa+ Early Access in the UK in the coming weeks.
