The Princess of Wales has shared a heartfelt message emphasizing the significance of “love, healing, and hope” to commemorate a significant milestone. Kate, who serves as the patron of Evelina London Children’s Hospital, has issued a special statement to honor the hospital’s 20th anniversary.
The hospital, which commenced operations in 2005, has been providing specialized care to infants, children, adolescents, and their families in London, southeastern England, and beyond. Princess Kate assumed the role of hospital patron in 2018 and has made multiple visits to interact with young patients, parents, and staff members.
On this momentous occasion, she expressed, “As Patron of Evelina, I’m thrilled to join the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the iconic hospital building at Evelina London Children’s Hospital.”
She further added, “Over the past two decades, this remarkable facility has facilitated Evelina London in caring for nearly triple the number of children and young people compared to its inception. It stands as a beacon of love, healing, and hope, significantly impacting countless lives.”
Kate highlighted the hospital’s environment, stating, “From my visits, I’ve observed that the building’s bright, inviting spaces and airy atrium ensure children feel secure, supported, and nurtured as they confront challenges.”
She also praised the dedicated staff, noting, “The exceptional compassion and expertise of the staff radiate throughout the hospital, creating an atmosphere where families feel embraced and uplifted.”
Looking towards the future, Kate expressed optimism for Evelina’s continued growth, underscoring the hospital’s commitment to providing top-tier care that fosters healing through connections and values every child.
During her last visit to the hospital in December 2023, Kate inaugurated the new day surgery unit. She met Saya Stephenson, a four-and-a-half-year-old recovering from a minor ear surgery, and empathized with the concerns of Saya’s mother, Miwa Stephenson.
Since its inception, Evelina London Children’s Hospital has achieved significant milestones, such as conducting the UK’s first pediatric robotic surgery for testicular cancer and capturing the first 3D scans of a fetal heart.
Gubby Ayida, Chief Executive of Evelina London Women’s and Children’s Clinical Group, lauded the hospital, stating, “Evelina London Children’s Hospital stands as a beacon of hope, compassion, and excellence for numerous infants, children, adolescents, and families.”
He emphasized the hospital’s commitment to placing children and families at the core of its services, praising the staff, patients, and supporting community on this celebratory occasion.
