Lando Norris Honors Mentor with Sao Paulo GP Win

Date:

Lando Norris expressed heartfelt gratitude to his former mentor, Gil de Ferran, following his triumph at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Securing victory from pole position at Interlagos solidified Norris’ position as the leading contender for the Formula 1 championship, extending his lead over teammate Oscar Piastri by 24 points with only three races left.

The win held special significance for Norris as he dedicated it to De Ferran, who tragically passed away in December 2023 at the age of 56 due to a heart attack during a private motorsport event in Florida. De Ferran, a respected figure in the motorsport community, had a notable history at McLaren, serving as a sporting director and advisor across multiple periods.

Debuting in Formula 1 in 2019 under De Ferran’s guidance, Norris was deeply moved by his victory in Brazil, remarking, “This one was for Gil, one of my mentors growing up [who died] a couple of years ago. This one was for him, I’m sure he’d be very proud of it all. I was thinking about that while I was driving. A perfect weekend.”

While celebrating his pivotal win, Norris acknowledged the impressive performance of Max Verstappen, who remarkably climbed from the pit lane to finish third after starting 16th. Despite his success, Norris expressed concern over Verstappen’s pace, emphasizing the need for his team to analyze and improve their performance.

Piastri’s fifth-place finish earned him 10 points, while British rookie Oliver Bearman continued to shine with a sixth-place finish for Haas. The team’s strong showing puts them just two points behind Aston Martin in the race for seventh place in the constructors’ championship.

In other news, Sky has enhanced its Ultimate TV and Sky Sports bundle, now offering HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, discovery+, and Hayu in addition to 135 channels and comprehensive coverage of Formula 1.
