Police in the United States are investigating the tragic death of a British woman who had traveled there with the purpose of being killed by an individual she had met on a fetish website. The investigation took a chilling turn when authorities discovered human remains in a package sent by the suspected killer.
The victim, identified as Sonia Exelby from Portsmouth, had reportedly planned to meet with individuals online who were willing to violently end her life. Ms. Exelby, known to have struggled with mental health issues and suicidal tendencies, was reported missing and endangered by British officials through INTERPOL on October 13.
Just days later, her remains were found in a shallow grave on October 17 in Florida. Dwain Hall, a man from Ocala, was arrested and charged with kidnapping and first-degree murder in connection with her death. Additionally, a disturbing package addressed to Hall’s wife from a friend was recovered, adding to the eerie circumstances surrounding the case.
Authorities allege that Hall, 53, responded to a request posted by Ms. Exelby on an undisclosed fetish site, agreeing to abuse and ultimately kill her. Further evidence against Hall includes the unauthorized use of the victim’s credit cards, leading to his arrest in October.
During the investigation, incriminating Facebook messages were uncovered, indicating Hall’s involvement in the crime. A package from a friend in Ohio was intercepted, revealing a knife with traces of the victim’s blood on it. Additionally, police found correspondence between Hall and the friend discussing the package.
Further details emerged, suggesting that Hall and Ms. Exelby had spent time together at an Airbnb property, engaging in multiple sexual encounters. A video recovered by investigators showed the victim covered in bruises, answering questions about her desire to be beaten and killed. The disturbing footage depicted Ms. Exelby as visibly distressed and subdued.
The investigation also revealed that a shovel matching one purchased by Hall before the incident was found in his possession, with DNA evidence linking him and the victim. An autopsy confirmed that Ms. Exelby had been fatally stabbed four times with a knife.
UK authorities disclosed that the victim had previously attempted to hire someone to end her life in 2024, an effort that had been thwarted, leading to her receiving treatment. The tragic case has shocked communities on both sides of the Atlantic, highlighting the devastating consequences of mental health struggles.
