All 20 soldiers aboard a Turkish military cargo plane have tragically lost their lives following a crash in Georgia near the Azerbaijan border on November 11. Turkey’s defense ministry has confirmed the fatalities as investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crash.
The C-130 aircraft had departed from Azerbaijan en route back to Turkey when the incident occurred in Georgia. Video footage broadcasted by Turkish media displayed the plane spiraling down with white smoke trailing behind.
This specific type of military cargo plane, the C-130, is commonly utilized by the Turkish armed forces for troop transportation. The Republic of Türkiye Ministry of National Defence released a statement on Tuesday regarding the accident, announcing the crash at the Georgia-Azerbaijan border and the initiation of search and rescue operations.
Georgian authorities arrived at the crash site around 5 pm local time, as Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed ongoing search and rescue efforts.
