“Serious Incident Halts York Sunday Race; Jockeys Injured”

Date:

The major Sunday event at York faced a delay following a serious incident during the main race of the day. Two jockeys, Jim Crowley and Trevor Whelan, required on-track medical attention after a frightening fall disrupted the proceedings. Both jockeys were conscious and later moved to a hospital in Leeds for further evaluation.

Fortunately, the horses involved in the accident, Almeraq and Tiger Bay, seemed uninjured as they walked away from the mishap at the Knavesmire track. Almeraq, ridden by Crowley, was the favored contender for the 4.30 race, the Sky Bet Starman Garrowby Stakes, but unfortunately stumbled and fell a short distance from the finish line after a possible contact with another horse.

Trained by William Haggas, Almeraq brought down Tiger Bay, ridden by Whelan, in the incident. The ongoing Sky Bet Sunday Series event is currently being broadcast live on ITV4. Presenter Oli Bell updated ITV viewers that both jockeys were conscious and undergoing treatment for leg injuries at Leeds General Infirmary, providing a sense of relief to the concerned audience.

The subsequent race scheduled for 5.00 was delayed by nearly thirty minutes before the races resumed their course.
