Virgin Media has emerged as the top choice for homes seeking superior broadband speeds, reliability, and consistent quality, according to the latest assessment by Opensignal. The UK Internet Service Provider (ISP) outperformed in all categories, including Download Speed, Upload Speed, Video Experience, and Consistent Quality.
Andrey Popov, Principal Analyst, highlighted that amidst the UK’s shift to full-fibre networks, Virgin Media offers the most robust broadband experience across all metrics monitored. This is attributed to Virgin’s enhanced cable-to-fibre network, distinguishing it from providers relying primarily on the Openreach wholesale platform. Virgin excelled notably in Download Speed at 187.8Mbps and Reliability Experience with 747 points.
Ranked second overall was Vodafone, which also received high marks across the board. Noteworthy is Vodafone’s unique advantage of operating on both Openreach and CityFibre networks, unlike most ISPs that rely on a single platform.
Other ISPs meriting mention are BT, placing third in Consistent Quality and Download Speed categories, and Sky, recognized for its Video Experience, securing the second spot in this segment.
On the flip side, Three found itself at the bottom of the rankings, scoring lowest in Consistent Quality, Upload Speed, Video Experience, and Reliability Experience. TalkTalk also faced challenges in download speeds, averaging 55.1Mbps, a stark contrast to Virgin’s impressive score of over 180Mbps.
