Pop sensation Shakira has achieved a significant milestone in her music career by clinching a notable award. The 48-year-old Grammy-winning star, famous for hits like Waka Waka, has added another feather to her cap.
Following the release of her twelfth studio album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, last year, Shakira embarked on a rigorous world tour. Beginning in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in February, the tour is scheduled to conclude next month in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
By the end of her tour, Shakira will have performed an impressive total of 82 shows, making it the most successful Latin tour by a female artist in history, amassing a remarkable $327.4 million. Her outstanding achievement has been recognized with the prestigious Billboard’s Global Touring Icon award.
Accepting the award alongside her long-time tour manager, Marty Hom, and her team, Shakira expressed her gratitude, stating, “This is incredible, I just want to share this with all of you guys.” She credited her band, dancers, crew, staff, and team for their hard work and dedication, highlighting the challenges they overcame to make history.
Expressing her appreciation for her Latin community and loyal fans, Shakira humbly acknowledged their support as she reflected on her enduring career. Fans echoed their congratulations, praising her talent and cultural impact.
Despite her tour’s success, Shakira faced challenges along the way. In a notable incident in Mexico, torrential rain caused chaos, flooding her dressing room and delaying her performance. Technical issues resulting from the rainstorm led to a delayed start, but the singer received a warm reception from the audience for persevering.
In a separate mishap in Montreal, Canada, Shakira stumbled on stage during a performance, humorously remarking, “No one is safe from falls!” Additionally, concerns over safety prompted the postponement of a show in Medellin, Colombia, due to a venue roof malfunction, underscoring the trials that came with her tour.
Despite the hurdles, Shakira’s resilience and dedication to her craft have solidified her status as a global music icon, celebrated by fans worldwide.
