Aldi has announced a list of 23 towns and cities where it aims to establish new stores as part of a significant £1.6 billion expansion scheme within the next two years. In its recent annual trading update, Aldi outlined intentions to open 80 new stores between 2026 and 2027.
In addition to launching new stores, the investment will be directed towards enhancing existing ones and optimizing the distribution network. Currently operating 1,060 stores, Aldi has previously disclosed plans to elevate this count to 1,500 stores nationwide, resulting in the creation of numerous job opportunities and increased prospects for British suppliers.
Among the targeted locations for new store openings in the upcoming years are:
Giles Hurley, the Chief Executive Officer for Aldi UK and Ireland, emphasized the brand’s commitment to providing top-quality products at unmatched prices, devoid of any clubs, gimmicks, or tricks. He underscored the aim to extend Aldi’s reach to more communities and make their pricing accessible to millions more customers by investing a record £1.6 billion over the next two years.
Recent financial reports from Aldi for the 12 months ending December 2024 revealed a surge in sales to £18.1 billion. Despite a decrease in operating profit to £435.5 million, attributed in part to customer price reductions, infrastructure investments, and higher staff wages, Aldi remains focused on enhancing affordability.
Aldi also disclosed a reduction in over 900 product prices in recent months, with investments exceeding £300 million in price adjustments since the beginning of 2025. Moreover, the supermarket raised store assistant wages twice this year, ensuring a minimum of £13.02 per hour nationally and £14.35 within the M25 region as of the current month.
