“Nestle Introduces Paper Tubs for Quality Street Chocolates”

Date:

Nestle has announced a significant alteration to its Quality Street tubs for the second consecutive year. The renowned chocolate manufacturer has disclosed that the iconic Quality Street chocolates will once again be packaged in paper tubs as part of Nestle’s broader initiative to ensure all its packaging is recyclable by 2025.

The introduction of the eco-friendly, octagonal paper tubs by Nestle last year received mixed reactions from consumers. While some shoppers expressed a preference for the traditional tins, citing their versatility, others welcomed the new design, hailing it as a positive move.

Starting this October, customers will have the option to purchase the paper Quality Street tubs at selected Tesco stores, alongside the continued availability of plastic tubs.

A Nestle representative confirmed the return of paper tubs for Quality Street at selected Tesco stores this Christmas season. The company continues to assess the popularity of the tubs among shoppers and explore innovative methods to enhance the sustainability of its packaging.

In the previous year, over 200,000 paper tubs, containing approximately 150 tonnes of Quality Street sweets, were distributed to designated Tesco outlets. Nestle emphasized that the paper tub retains a luxurious appearance with gold foil embellishments, includes a re-closable feature, and can be easily recycled after use.

Quality Street made the transition from colorful plastic wrappers to recyclable paper packaging in 2022. Jemma Handley, the Senior Brand Manager for Quality Street, expressed pride in being the first major manufacturer to trial a paper tub for Christmas, emphasizing the attractive design and the consistent quality of the chocolates.

Cheryl Allen, Head of Sustainability – Confectionery Europe at Nestle, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainable packaging and the importance of gathering feedback from trials to drive future sustainability efforts and reduce the use of virgin plastic.

The move to paper tubs reflects Nestle’s dedication to environmental responsibility and aligns with evolving consumer preferences and technological advancements.
