British boxing icon Ricky Hatton dies at 46

Date:

British boxing legend Ricky Hatton has passed away at the age of 46 in his home. Hatton, a beloved figure in British sports, achieved international fame when he defeated Kosta Tszyu in 2005 to become a world champion. He engaged in memorable bouts against Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, retiring after a devastating loss to Pacquiao but returning to the ring in 2022, where he was defeated by Vyachslav Senchenko.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the discovery of a body at Hatton’s residence, stating that the death was not considered suspicious. Hatton’s upbringing in Hyde, Manchester, led him to boxing after facing bullies in school, eventually leading to a successful professional career that included multiple world titles.

With a perfect 43-0 record, Hatton faced Mayweather in a highly anticipated match in 2007, followed by victories against other notable opponents. Despite his success in the ring, Hatton struggled with personal challenges, including mental health issues and addiction.

Tributes poured in from the boxing community following the news of Hatton’s passing, with friends and colleagues honoring his legacy. Boxers like Amir Khan and Chris Eubank Sr expressed their condolences, highlighting Hatton’s contributions to British boxing.
