“Aldi Slashes Prices on 900+ Items Amid £300M Investment”

Date:

Aldi has announced a reduction in prices for over 900 items in its product range in recent months. The supermarket has invested more than £300 million in lowering prices since the beginning of 2025, covering various categories such as fresh produce, bakery goods, dairy products, and household essentials.

Julie Ashfield, the Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, stated that with rising inflation, consumers are more mindful of their spending habits. To address this, Aldi has prioritized price cuts to provide customers with the best value. The supermarket understands the importance of competitive pricing for customers, especially during the holiday season like Christmas, offering significant savings compared to other major retailers.

Which? recently ranked Aldi as the most affordable supermarket once again. In August 2025, a shopping list containing 75 items averaged £127.92 at Aldi, making it 38p cheaper than the same basket at Lidl with its loyalty program, Lidl Plus. The list included both branded and own-label items like Birds Eye Peas, Hovis bread, milk, and butter.

For Tesco Clubcard holders, the average cost of the shopping list was £142.36, while non-Clubcard holders paid £145.01. Sainsbury’s Nectar card users spent an average of £144.75, compared to £149.02 without a Nectar card.

Aldi has also announced plans to open approximately one new store per week until the end of the year. Some confirmed locations include Sefton in Liverpool, Pacific Drive in Eastbourne, Brimington in Chesterfield, and Shoreditch in London.

The supermarket has identified key locations across the UK for potential new stores, each requiring a 20,000 sq ft store area with ample parking spaces and easy accessibility. Additionally, Aldi is seeking sites in Central London for its Aldi Local store format, which typically comprises 5,000 sq ft of trading space and 3,000 sq ft of ancillary space.

Furthermore, Aldi will close all its stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, allowing employees to enjoy time with their loved ones. Extended operating hours will be in place leading up to Christmas to accommodate customer needs for the festive season.
