Shortly past noon US time on September 10, Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist, was speaking at an event at Utah Valley University to a crowd of over 3,000 attendees. Suddenly, a gunshot-like sound was heard, and onlookers witnessed the 31-year-old collapsing after being fatally shot in the neck, leading to chaos among the crowd. Despite immediate medical attention, Kirk succumbed to his injuries.
Charlie Kirk, originally from Chicago, was the founder of Turning Point USA, a prominent nonprofit organization advocating conservative principles on college and high school campuses. Known for his conservative stances on various issues, Kirk often engaged in debates with students during his “Prove Me Wrong” events.
During the event, as Kirk was discussing gun violence in the US, he was tragically shot after responding to a question from an audience member. Eyewitnesses described the shooter as wearing dark clothing and firing from a building overlooking the courtyard where the event took place.
Law enforcement authorities are treating the incident as an assassination, with the shooter still at large. Despite the brief detention of two individuals, including protester George Zinn, they were later released as they were found to have no connection to the crime.
