A mother in her late twenties tragically passed away just a few weeks after undergoing a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) as a birthday gift to herself. Marilha Menezes Antunes underwent the surgery, which included liposuction on her back and fat transfer to her buttocks, at a private clinic in Brazil shortly after celebrating her 28th birthday.
During the procedure, Marilha’s sister, Léa Carolina, overheard a nurse urgently calling for an ambulance. Despite seeking answers, the doctor was unresponsive until the police arrived, ultimately issuing the death certificate. Initially, the doctor mentioned bronchoaspiration and cardiorespiratory arrest as the causes of death, but an autopsy revealed hypovolemic shock, internal bleeding, and blunt-force trauma as the actual reasons.
Family members emphasized Marilha’s good health, mentioning that she followed medical advice, researched risks, and completed all necessary pre-surgery tests. They suspect that a punctured organ led to fatal bleeding and are now demanding accountability from the clinic in Rio de Janeiro.
Léa expressed her grief, stating, “I took her to fulfill a dream, and instead, she encountered death.” The clinic defended itself, clarifying its role as a day hospital and asserting that the surgical center is adequately equipped to handle medical emergencies.
Marilha, a mother to a six-year-old boy and an occupational safety technician at an aviation company, is the subject of an ongoing investigation into her untimely death. The clinic, Amacor, has pledged full cooperation with authorities in the investigation process.
